Chenming exemplifies how curiosity and a commitment to sustainability can grow into a passion for protecting the natural world. After beginning his studies in ecology at Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University, he transferred to UBC through the 2+3 Transfer Program, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Conservation. Inspired by UBC Forestry & Environmental Stewardship’s interdisciplinary approach, Chenming embraced opportunities to broaden his perspective through courses in environmental economics, policy, energy, agriculture, and Indigenous perspectives.
One of the highlights of his UBC experience was a Forestry Co-op placement with the Langley Environmental Partners Society (LEPS). Working on community outreach and climate awareness initiatives, Chenming gained valuable real-world experience while deepening his understanding of the complex challenges surrounding climate change and environmental conservation. The experience strengthened his desire to contribute to meaningful solutions for protecting ecosystems and inspiring collective action.
Reflecting on his journey through the 2+2/3+2 Transfer Program, Chenming valued the opportunity to experience two distinct education systems and cultures. While adapting to life and studies in Canada presented challenges, he appreciated the support provided by the Faculty and the opportunity to develop a broader global perspective. His advice to future students is simple but meaningful: study hard, explore new experiences, stay active, and discover what truly inspires you.
